Croatia maintained stability in the first half of the year

The eVisitor system records tourist traffic at the same level as last year, with a slight increase on the continent.

Continental tourism in a slight plus, Istria still leads the coast

The Croatian tourism sector has concluded the first six months with 7.6 million arrivals and 29.5 million overnight stays. This fully maintains last year's momentum. While the Adriatic coast, with 27.1 million overnight stays, remained at last year's figures, the continental part of the country, including Zagreb, recorded a one percent growth. Among the regions, Istria continues to lead with 8.7 million overnight stays, followed by the Split-Dalmatia County and Kvarner. At the city level, the strongest magnets were Dubrovnik, Rovinj and Poreč.

Investment in airlines and pressure on pricing policy

The key driver of stability amidst geopolitical challenges has been a shift in approach to distribution and strengthening connectivity. Strategic partnerships with tour operators and agencies have secured over 6 million euros. This has resulted in as many as 330 active flight routes this season. Compared to last year, this is an increase of 74 routes. According to Eurostat data, Croatia holds fourth place in Europe for overnight stays in the first quarter. It is ahead of major Mediterranean competitors. The Minister of Tourism and Sport, Tonči Glavina, emphasizes that a smart pricing policy will be crucial for maintaining this momentum during the peak season and the shoulder season.

Hotels account for half of all commercial arrivals.

Analysis of accommodation capacities shows a clear disproportion between the share of beds and the realised turnover. Although hotels account for only 14 percent of total commercial capacities, they attracted as much as 47 percent of all commercial arrivals in the first half of the year. On the other hand, private accommodation facilities, which hold the majority share of 52 percent of capacities, realised 27 percent of arrivals. Camps recorded 15 percent. When it comes to markets, traditional leaders remain Germany and domestic guests. They are also followed by Slovenia and Austria, with a stable contribution from the markets of the United Kingdom and the USA.
